The town Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, is where the Machu Picchu buses depart to go to the Machu Picchu Citadel.
• Departure buses (going to Machu Picchu) depart every 10 minutes starting at 5:30am until 4pm
• Return buses (coming back from Machu Picchu) depart every 10 minutes starting at 7:30am until the last passanger is picked up.
The buses are equipped with a modern ecological design that allows the passenger to travel comfortably during the 20 minute ride up to the sanctuary.
The bus route goes up in a zigzag through the middle of the cloud forest.
Tickets may be purchased on this website in advance and can also be purchased at the ticket booth in the village of Machu Picchu, however, this may delay your Machu Picchu trip. Although buses depart constantly, sometimes the purchase line may be one to two hours long during peak times. So, it's best to buy your Machu Picchu bus tickets in advance. If you decide to go up to Machu Picchu walking, then it will take you about 1 hour to walk considering the altitude.
